Moon Candles

May your birthday soirée be fulfilled by the magic of the beehive. 

The earliest Greek records refer to honeybees as sacred beings in relation to goddess and mother cultures. Once a month, the birth of Artemis, goddess of the moon, was celebrated with the preparation of round cakes. Lit bees-waxed candles were positioned to form a glowing moon atop each cake; their smoke, it was believed, would carry wishes and prayers to the sky-dwelling gods.
